Pre
& Post Conference Tours
As you
prepare to travel to Ghana to participate in the 23rd Annual
Conference of the International Organisation Development Association
(IODA) in Accra, Ghana from July 27-31, 2008 under the theme
"Growing Together in Partnership", please do not forget to
plan to spend some time in Ghana before and after the conference.
The IODA
Secretariat has appointed MasMuv
Travel & Tours to organise a number of pre and post
conference tours to some places of interest around Ghana for
interested delegates. In keeping with our linkage of the conference
theme to our proverbs, we say to you, come and savour the beauty and
hospitality of our country, after all " Between true
friends, even water drunk together is sweet enough"
The dates
for the tours are flexible and will be taliored to suit delegate
travel schedules etc. Delegates wishing to participate in these tours
will need to make the arrangements directly with MasMuv by completing
the Tours Booking Form. Tour Related Payments may be made directly to
MasMuv Travel & Tours. MassMuv will communicate directly with
delegates interested in the tour packages.

ACCRA
CITY TOUR

We
start by mid-morning driving through the principal street of Accra
to the KWAME NKRUMAH Memorial Park named after Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the
first president of Ghana. After a guided tour of the place, we will
visit CENTER FOR NATIONAL CULTURE where a variety of African
handicraft are displayed and sold and also to the NATIONAL MUSEUM to
examine some historic archaeological discoveries and colonial
antiquities. The famous 'Makola' market would not be left out on the
trip to witness the entrepreneurial skills being displayed by the
indigenous market women as they go about their daily business. The
day ends with a conducted tour of the premier University of Ghana
Legon and finally to Dr. W.E.B DUBOIS CENTER for Pan-African Culture. |

DAY
1 - Accra-CapeCoast
We
depart Accra and head west through historical settlements of the
Fantis along the ECOWAS highway to Cape Coast the then capital of
Gold Coast until 1877. The intriguing site of attraction here are the
Cape Coast and Elmina castle where most of the evils of slave trade
took place. You need to go through the dungeons, slave cells, the
infamous gate of NO RETURN, see film show on those evil days. Shop at
the Castle museum for souvenir and also to the indigenous fishing
village at Elmina as you admire the stone houses. Overnight at a hotel

2 KAKUM NATIONAL PARK
Visit
Kakum National Park, a typical rainforest rich in medicinal and
other species of tree. There is a choice of trekking on the hour-long
Kuntan Trail or embark on the adventurous 40 meter high Canopy
Walkway, which gives you a bird's eye view of the forest. The
exhibition center is good to visit as you enjoy a live traditional
band. There will be a lunch break at a restaurant built on a
crocodile pond while enjoying the sights of weaverbirds and monkeys.
Return to Accra late afternoon. |

GHANA/MOLE
NATIONAL PARK

Day
1 -Kintampo waterfalls, Techiman.
We
depart Accra through the midlands to Techiman, where we will arrive
by mid-day for an excursion to the Kintampo waterfalls and Fuller
Falls. Techiman is important by its strategic position as a place
where nearly all the traffic from north to south and east to west,
and the other way round, passes. On the market you will find very
nice pottery. In the rest of the afternoon you can explore the
surroundings or relax in the restaurant on the rooftop of the hotel.
Day
2 - Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary and grottos
Once
upon a time, a greater part of Ghana was covered with tropical rain
forest. One of the remaining parts of this tropical rain forest is
the national park "Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary", where
about 14 monkeys' colonies lives in harmony with human being. Before
we continue to Tamale, we visit the impressive grottos and The Tano
Boase sacred groove near Techiman. We will arrive late to check in at hotel.
Day
3 - Mole National Park.
After
breakfast, we depart for our long drive partly through rough terrain
for a visit to the largest Nature Park in Ghana, Mole National Park.
Viewing en route the Savannah grassland, fascinating architecture
sparsely dotted along the way. Observing the contrast in Culture and
life style between the southern and the northern part of Ghana. We
stop at Larabanga to admire the old mosque and the mystery rock, and
then drive on to the Mole National Park, where we can watch the
wildlife from a terrace of the motel as the animals comes to the
compound to drink and bath in the lake. Hotel for the night: Mole
Motel, Damongo
Day
4 - Salaga, Nalerigu, Daboya
The
tour of the day will take us to Salaga slave heritage, Nelerigu
Defence wall, and Daboya Cultural village for the move of the spirit
of the indigenous people. Back to hotel for the night.
Day
5 - Return to Accra via Kumasi
We
depart after breakfast via Kumasi for a brief city tour and continue
through the midlands back to Accra, arriving late in the evening. |

Day
1 Cape Coast.
We
depart Accra through "city" villages to the central
region, there will be a stop over at Abanzi village for an excursion,
to Fort Amsterdam and proceeds to have fishing experience with the
local fishermen at the beach and head on to Cape Coast. A conducted
tour of the Cape Coast Castle (UNESCO world heritage site) where most
of the evils of slave trade took place. In the castle, you will have
the chance of going trough the dungeon, slave cells and the
exhibition shop. There will also be a conducted tour of the Cape
Coast Township and the University of Cape Coast. Spend the rest of
the day at the white sand sunny beach resort. Overnight at a Hotel.
Day
2 Kakum National Park, Elmina Castle
Early
morning excursion to the Kakum National Park. Together with the
guide we walk the 2 kilometres long Kuntan Trail, straight through
the tropical forest. Walking on the famous canopy walkway which hangs
about 40meters from the ground gives you a bird's eye view of the
forest but recommended for those that are not afraid of height. Lunch
break at a restaurant built on crocodile pond (optional).
In
the afternoon we will have a conducted tour of the Elmina Castle
which is the earliest known European castle building on the coast of
sub- Saharan Africa built by the Portuguese in 1482 and later used as
the main auction market and garrison for the slave trade. Of special
interest are the slave dungeons, the auction market and the
Portuguese Church. A visit to the Elmina fish market and the stone
houses ends the day's programme. Back to Hotel in Elmina
Day
3 - Kumasi
After
breakfast, we depart through the slave route, stopping over at 'Asin
Manso' for a quick visit to the Slave River (Nnoko Nsu) within which
the slaves who were brought from Northern Ghana had their last bath
in African waters before sent to the castles for shipment. The tour
continues to Kumasi the capital of the Ashanti Region. The Ashantis
forms the biggest tribal group of the entire population in Ghana. For
centuries they were the rulers in the region because of their well
organized society. In the afternoon we will visit the "Manhyia
Palace" the seat of the Ashanti King. We will be taken through
the palace museum for antiquities. There will be a visit also to the
cultural center, Komfo Anokye sword site, Kejetia Market and Prempeh
ii jubilee museum. Overnight hotel in Kumasi
Day
4 - Craft Villages - Return to Accra
We
begin the day with a visit to Ahwiaa, a woodcarving village. You
will have the opportunity to admire the Asante Royal Stool in
Shadows. We continue to Ntonsu the home of 'Adinkra" clothes
where you learn about Adinkra symbol and Totems. Bonwire- the Kente
weaving village. Kente is an expensive hand woven traditional cloth
Ghanaian relates to. At Bonwire, the story of how Kente came about
would be told.
A
visit to Lake Bosomtwe for the touch of nature will crown the day as
we continue to Accra. |

DAY
1 KUMASI
We
depart Accra early morning and head about 272km to the Garden City
of Ghana-Kumasi. Arriving in time to visit the Culture center for an
introduction to the Ashantis way of life. Places to visit are, the
Prempeh II Museum, a model Ashanti village, Kejetia Market and cocoa
farm. We will also visit the Manhyia Palace the seat of the Ashanti
King and also the Palace Museum. Overnight hotel stay in Kumasi.
DAY
2 CRAFT VILLAGES:
We
begin the day with a visit to Ahwiaa, a woodcarving village. You
will have the opportunity to admire the Asante Royal Stool in

Day
1: Kumasi
We
will take a drive through scenic vegetation, villages and the
breathtaking Kwahu scarps to Kumasi. We stopover enroute at Ejisu,
hometown of Yaa Asantewa, the bravest female army general in the
history of the Ashantis. Yaa Asantewa led the Ashantis in the
British-Ashanti War of 1901 and was exiled to Seychelles island where
she later died.
Day
2: Obuasi
After
breakfast we will leave by bus to Obuasi, the "Land of
Gold" for a tour of the gold mines. After visiting the gold
mines we will return to Kumasi and continue to the African art &
craft village of Ahiwaa, where the famous Ashanti stools and
fertility dolls are produced. Then we visit the African art &
craft village of Ntonso, noted for the hand-printed Adinkra fabrics.
Here we will also witness the various stages for brewing dye for
Adinkra cloth from the roots and barks of the "Badie" tree,
stamping of Adinkra symbols and special needle embroidery of Adinkra
cloth. Overnight in Kumasi.
Day
3: Buabeng/Fiema - Kintampo Falls
After
breakfast, we will drive to the Monkey Sanctuary at Buabeng/Fiema
for game viewing. We continue to the Catholic Grottos and Monastery,
(Optional). Lunch at Techiman. After lunch we will visit the Kintampo
falls where we will spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing. From
Kintampo Falls we return to Kumasi. Overnight in Kumasi.
Day
4: Bonwire - Accra
We
return to Accra via the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and
Technology. On the way back to Accra we stop at Bonwire. The
traditional Kente cloth is made in Bonwire. Kente cloth is woven on
traditional looms. Arriving in Accra late afternoon. |
