The Conference

The annual IODA conferences create the avenues where OD faithfuls, from the seasoned to the learner, come together to share their experiences, knowledge & concerns.

The Conference Planning Committee promises you a most enjoyable experience in Ghana when you join us for this very important and trendsetting 23rd Annual IODA Conference in Accra, Ghana from July 27-31, 2008.

The theme for the conference - "Growing Together in Partnership - is very reflective of the affirmed interest of IODA to further consolidate its social cohesion, commonness of purpose to create new thinking to improve governance and growth of individuals, business and community entities, and nations through new paradigm shifts in this fast changing world.

The theme of the conference also exemplifies a Ghanaian proverb which says that "You cannot tell how crooked the path is as you cut your way through, but the one following you can" Mentorships and collaboration are indeed the very bedrocks of positive partnerships.

In keeping with the Theme, all the sessions of the IODA 2008 Conference will thus be woven around nine sub-themes that have been best described via African Proverbs (see the Call for Papers pages)

In addition, IODA2008 will further foster and boost the development of the practice of Organisational Development (OD) in Ghana and indeed Africa, as it will bring the cream of OD faithfuls - the seasoned and the novices - together to rub shoulders with the very growing pool (over 350 strong!) of budding OD practictioners and postgraduate students undergoing tutelage here in Ghana with the Joint OD post-graduate training programme of the University of Cape Coast and the OCIC International.

The primary venue for conference sessions and delegate accomodation will be the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

The IODA’2008 Conference will focus on the use of Organizational Development (OD) .. ..

  • To enhance the economic, social, cultural, and educational development of individuals, organisational entities and countries;

  • To consolidate the long-term effort by IODA to promote networking of OD Practitioners for their educational and professional development;

  • To examine the future of OD and to create the platform for partnerships and sustained growth;

  • To explore the barriers to developing goals and targeted interventions for infusing OD and OD Practices into day-to-day activities of educational, social, corporate and national activities and transactions; and

  • To strengthen the capacity of OD related organizations, grassroot and low income communities to initiate, choose, plan and manage their own self help projects to eliminate poverty in all countries;

 The Conference Objectives are .. ..

  • To create and/or expand the awareness of OD and its practices and develop a catalogue of sharable ideas/resources towards deepening the understanding of OD and its applications at the international and national levels;

  • To create or display a catalog of demonstrable activities that could have positive or developmental effects on public opinion in terms of what OD can offer for national and international development;

  • To create an opportunity to explore possibilities and barriers to developing broad-based goals for infusing OD into all facets of life especially in emerging democracies;
